The final draft of the Kosovo Civil Code was presented today January 24, 2019 in Prishtina, with the participation of the Ministry of Justice and the European Union Ambassador to Kosovo.
The Code has enabled new and more appropriate solutions based on the fundamental premise of the liberal order, such as freedom, inviolability of individual freedom of choice, equality before the law, contractual freedom, and above all the inviolability of the property. The Civil Code has 5 parts: General Part, Family Law Book, Obligations Book, Property Rights Book, and Heritage Book. This factsheet will provide you with more details on how the Civil Code affects issues such as family life, children, property rights, and inheritance rights.
The project, led in its phase 2 by Eurecna, is set to end in 2020 with the adoption of the Code by the Assembly, and its application and enforcement at national level, which strengthens the rule of law in Kosovo in the vision of the Agenda "Justice 2020", and in accordance to the European Aquis.
